Adult students are welcome to attend ABC Adult School:

🗹 to earn credit towards a high school diploma

🗹 to prepare for a high school equivalency test (GED® or HiSET®)

🗹 to improve basic skills

 

 

Graduation Ceremony

ABC Adult School will celebrate commencement on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Adult students who have completed the district requirements for a high school diploma or passed the GED or HiSET examination are encouraged to participate wearing the traditional cap and gown in the presence of family and friends.

Getting Started:

  1.  Come to the Cuesta Campus Main Office with picture identification and official, unopened transcripts. Office hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-8:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-3:30 pm.
  2.  Meet with the dean who will help you determine the best educational path and will create a custom learning plan for you.
  3.  Take the required CASAS test in our Assessment Center at the Cuesta Campus. Testing hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-5:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am-3:00 pm. 
  4.  Plan to spend about 1-2 hours for transcript evaluation, testing, orientation and class scheduling.

High School Diploma

Earn your high school diploma with the help of our highly qualified and credentialed staff, and take advantage of the latest technology and software available. You can complete as many five-credit classes during each semester as your schedule allows. The recommended course load is 2-3 classes, depending on your work schedule and/or family obligations.

 

Choose from our three HS Diploma Program Learning Models:

1. Complete work in our Direct Instruction (Teacher-Led) Classes

  • We offer teacher-led classes for the most in-demand subjects each quarter. 
  • Classes such as Government, Economics, Algebra, English, U.S. History, and Life Science are scheduled throughout the year.
  • Live Zoom options may also be available.

2. Complete work in our Learning Center Lab   

The Learning Center provides students with access to computers, calculators, and the online programs needed for high school diploma classes. It is a quiet learning environment that is free from distractions. Students are able to work at their own pace, and credentialed teachers and paraeducators are available to help.

  • Open Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-5:30 pm
  • Open Friday 8:00 am-2:30pm

3. Complete work from home

Online Course Access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

 

*ABC Adult School requires 180 Credits to obtain your diploma. The counselor will evaluate your transcripts to determine the credits you need:

GED / HiSET Preparation

California has approved the use of the GED® and HiSET® high school equivalency tests for students 18 years old and older for the purpose of receiving a California High School Equivalency Certificate.  ABC Adult School offers preparation and testing for both the GED and HiSET exams.

Before signing up for the official GED or HiSET exam, most adults find it helpful to enroll in a preparation program. Choose the learning model from below that best meets your needs and schedule. In-person classes guide students through the process of preparing and registering for their high school equivalency exams. Classes feature test-taking tips, the most common multiple-choice question types, and scored essay feedback.

Choose from our three GED / HiSET Preparation Program Learning Models:

1. Complete work in our Direct Instruction (Teacher Led) Classes

Teacher-led classes guide students through the process of preparing and registering for their high school equivalency exams. The classes review the core subjects of each exam. Test taking tips and strategies are taught, along with the most common multiple choice question types and scored essay feedback. See our class schedule for this school year:

HiSET/GED All Subjects:  M/W  9:00 am-12:30 pm

HiSET/GED Spanish All Subjects:  T/Th  9:00 am-12:30 pm

*Spring Semester January 23, 2023 - June 8, 2023
